Smiles and sportsmanship all round at ACT Masters

Published Tue 08 Feb 2022

More than 80 players participated in a successful 2022 ACT Masters event over the weekend.

Eight teams took part in the tournament, including one from Wagga, with players travelling from as far away as Sydney to participate.

Competitions and Event Manager Georgia Duffy indicated the event was held in true master's spirit, saying, “The emphasis was about the social side of sport, and it was great to see such big smiles and good sportsmanship all weekend. Our Masters event is growing every year, and we anticipate that 2023 will be even bigger and better again.

“I’d also like to give a special shoutout to our umpires and volunteers. Because of their efforts, the event runs smoothly, and everyone gets to enjoy themselves.”

Such was the growth in numbers for the event, that entries grew from a single pool of teams into an ‘A’ and ‘B’ grade competition, with four teams in each division.

The ‘A’ grade competition was won by Classics Gold over the Unpredictables, while in the ‘B’ grade final the whISPers defeated the Boomerangs.

Softball ACT is now inviting eligible players and officials to register their expression of interest (EOI) to be considered for selection into the inaugural Over-35 ACT State Team at the 2022 National Championships.

To be eligible, players must be born in 1987 or earlier, with EOI registration to be completed by 5:00pm Friday 25th February 2022.

More information about trials and training will be sent out as soon as possible, with an anticipated trial date for late-March to early April, with training to commence late April.
