Canberra Softball - be part of the Pride

Our Brand - As the only ‘big cat’ to live in a family group, the lion represents working together to achieve goals as a team. The name ‘Pride’ and our logo showcases the way that we want to play – Tough. Fierce. Honourably, and with our softball Family.

Attending tournaments as part of a Canberra team is the next step up from playing in local Club competitions. It is for players interested in developing their skills, having fun, travelling to new and exciting locations to play teeball and softball. Canberra Pride teams also participate in local events where interstate team come to Canberra to play.

COSTS - Participation in Gala Days

Estimate cost for a 1 day Gala Day is between $50 to $100 per player. This will cover team entry fees, umpire costs (1 umpire) and match balls.

*A large component of fees is to supply umpires for tournaments. Softball ACT has an agreement with Softball Umpires Association of the ACT (SUAACT). They will organise qualified umpires to attend tournaments. As part of this arrangements the umpires are paid travel, accommodation and a daily umpire rate. We are unable to enter events without meeting our umpire requirements. We aim to charge costs at a minimum so will look for savings where we can.

INVOICING

Players will receive an invoice from Softball Australia soon after the tournament when final cost reconcilation is complete. If a player is registered to play and withdraws without written agreement from Program Administrator that costs will not be charged, then the player will be still be liable to pay player fee.

Softball Australia payment policies will apply.  Refer to Factsheet Unfinancial Member Process

Our Brand.

As the only ‘big cat’ to live in a family group, the lion represents working together to achieve goals as a team.

The name ‘Pride’ and our logo showcases the way that we want to play – Tough. Fierce. Honourably, and with our softball Family.

Our History

Taking all the best parts of the Canberra Eclipse and Canberra Force programs (see our history here,) the Canberra Pride is a participation program open to all members of our softball community.

Our Program.

Our purpose in creating this program is to align our participants – players, coaches, umpires, and statisticians – the lot.

Softball ACT is a small community – too small to act independently – we’re so much stronger when united as a Pride.

The key elements of the program are:

  • Participation-based program for the enjoyment of all players
  • Voluntary administrative position/s appointed by Softball ACT
  • Central management by Softball ACT for transparency
  • Minimal and transparent costs for tournament entry – not an additional budget line for Softball ACT!

The volunteer administrator will sort out all the team fees, coaches, equipment and answer any queries on uniforms – all you’ve got to do is organise your own travel and accommodation!

It’s a simple process of nominating to play at a tournament and being placed in a team!

Our Tournaments.

Tournaments that we aim to attend annually include:

  • Softball NSW State Championships
  • Softball NSW Blue Blaze tournaments Sept/Oct School holidays
  • Canberra Pride Events (including training days and games against NSW State Softball Academies).

There will also be age-specific gala days and round-robin tournaments that teams will travel to throughout NSW and Victoria. We also arrange local tournaments.

Our Admin Team.

Softball ACT is committed to ensuring this program is a community-driven operation. Our administrators are people from our local community – driven to ensure our participants get the best possible experience!

Deb Fearns is the current volunteer program administrator.

Getting Involved.
